エジプトの電信会社による北朝鮮でのモバイル・サービス

エジプトの電信会社orascomの子会社cheoテクノロジーが北朝鮮全域での3Gモバイルフォン・サービスのライセンスを取得した。ライセンス期限は25年にわたり、うち4年は完全な自社経営権を持つことができる。また朝鮮国営の朝鮮郵電はcheoテクノロジーの25%の株を所有している。北朝鮮ではモバイル・サービスが2002年に一度一般市民に開放されたものの1年半後には禁止となり、ケータイは回収されていて今のところモバイルフォン・サービス自体がない。Orascomの計画ではサービス開始1年目には平壌とその他の主要都市をカバーする予定。

Orascom Telecom (OTH) has won the right to provide wireless services to North Korea, which, as well as being one of the world's most isolated countries, strictly controls information access for the general public. [...] North Korea has a population of about 23m, but there is currently no mobile service in the country. Orascom plans to offer cover to Pyongyang and most of the major cities during the first year of operations.
