ロケーション・サービスIRLコネクト

googleのlatitudeロケーション・サービスはgoogleのコンタクト中に含まれる友人しか表示できず、別の人気あるソーシャル・ネットワークの中の多くの友人とは繋がることができないことが問題だった。そうしたことから誰かがいずれgoogle maps APIと別の人気のあるソーシャル・ネットワークを組み合わせたサービスをつくるのは自然の流れと言えた。今月ベータ版としてオープンしたIRLコネクトはfacebookとtwitter上のコンタクトとマップの上で友人同士と交流ができるロケーション・サービス。ただし、いずれのロケーション・サービスも直面する問題をかかえておりユーザーがオプト・インしなければサービスが最大限に生かされない欠点がある。またIRLコネクトは現状でリアルタイムWIFIやGPSやcell IDを提供しておらずユーザーがマニュアルで正しい位置まで標準をあわさなければならない。しかしgoogleのlatitudeが近くのセルフォン･タワーからのシグナルで位置を割り出すのとくらべればストーキング被害を受けることを心配する必要はない。

Google contacts ― it didn't include access to the most popular socialnetworks, through which many users connect with friends. Therefore, itwas only natural that someone would use Google's Maps API and build alocation service around social networks.In Real Life (IRL) Connect, based in Amsterdam, opened a private betathis month that allows people to locate their Facebook and Twittercontacts on a map and interact with them on the social network fromthe map interface. I checked out the service, and my early verdict isthat it has potential but maintains the same limitations as otherlocation-based services ― mainly, people need to opt-in in order to maximize its usefulness.
