思念で動くロボット10年以内に商業化
AFPの報道によれば日本政府は企業とパートナー関係を結んでロボット研究開発に当たり、一般消費者が意識で操縦するロボットを10年以内に商業化するという。パートナーを組むのはトヨタやホンダや日立などの企業と一流大学と研究機関で、開発されたすべてのロボットには、操縦者の脳部電気信号と血流をモデルとするヘッドギアが備わる。これは最近市場に出ているいくつかの脳波で動く設備と違い価格も安く、日常生活での使用に適しており、老人や身体障害者のサポートにも応用が期待されている。一方、Robert OschlerはEmotiv EPOCヘッドギアを使い、WowWee Rovioロボットを意識で動かす実験を行い成功しており、玩具や身体障害者サポートなどのほか、全く新しいインプット方式への道を切り開くものとして期待される。このシステムはフリーのRobodanceと呼ばれるコンシューマー用ロボットを動かすプログラムで書かれており、新しいバージョンであるRobodance 5は5月20日にベータがリリースされる予定となっている。

I decided to see if I could use the headset to control a WowWee Rovio robot using just my mind and facial gestures. If the EPOC headset couldn't substitute for traditional input devices, this demonstration would prove it. But if it worked, it would show off the device's potential both as a toy and as a tool for the physically challenged, and maybe even as a stepping stone on the path of creating entirely new input technologies.
