韓国の独自開発OSであるTmax Window
韓国のTmaxSoftの独自開発によるOSがTmax Window。Tmax Windowはマイクロソフトの韓国国内マーケットの独占状態を打ち崩すために開発されたもので、1993年にK-DOS以来16年を経て再び登場した国産OS。公開されているWin32 APIを使ってライブラリを開発しwindowsとも互換性をもたせることから、今使っているwindowsアプリケーションが続けて使用できる。Tmax Windowは7月のデモ発表を予定しており、オフィス・ツールであるTmax OfficeとブラウザTmax Scoutorもリリースされる。韓国ではインターネット・メッセンジャーはMSNより国産のNateOnが第一位の地位を占めており、iPodにしてもマーケットリーダーではなくCowonやiriverやSamsungが競争しあっている。ITテクノロジーにしても韓国開発のWiBroが海外でWiMAXの名で広まっている。Tmax Windowが成功すれば海外への発展もあり得るかもしれない。

The Internet Messenger is also my favorite. I know China has QQ for its Internet messenger, while we have one called NateOn. NateOn has more than 27 million users and it just keeps growing by 0.2 million users every month. NateOn is the No. 1 market share holder in the Korean Internet messenger market and MSN will have some ways to go to catch up. [...] It is good to know that we do have some leading software at least in Korea. Someday, these software will hopefully be exported overseas, just like our advanced IT technologies which are already in many other countries. WiBro can be a good example. It is exported as WiMAX overseas, with all the technology and hardware developed in Korea.
