マイクロソフトがe-bookの注釈機能の特許申請
マイクロソフトがe-bookの注釈機能の特許申請を出しているが、問題は特許の範囲が他のe-bookリーダーでの一般的な注釈機能にも及んでいること。e-bookの他のリーダーといえばXMLをベースにしたopenreaderフォーマットとコンパチブルなthoutreaderやosoftがある。中国にはapabi readerがあって仮にマイクロソフトが特許取得に成功してもその実効性がどれほどあるか疑問。
Now Alex Turic at MobileRead is out today with important commentary on Microsoft's efforts to patent electronic annotation–used in countless e-book readers. And the depressing thing is that the patent seems to involve the generic use of user-selectable anchors in a permanent file and a separately linked file for the annotations.

OSoft, whose ThoutReader™ format is already used by major publishers, will release a free e-text reader based on OpenReader's XML standards in 2006.
