中国のセレブ・シェフであるJohnson WongとMartin Yan

中国では豊かになった人々は空腹を満たすだけの食事からいかに多くの種類を楽しむかに移ってきた結果,テレビ料理番組を持つようなセレブなシェフを生んだ。広州に関連したJohnson WongとMartin Yanなどがいる。

In the southern city of Guangzhou, Johnson Wong is the star shef. He is an enterprising one-man conglomerate. Mr. Wong hosts his own TV and radio programs, writes his own newspaper column and leads seminars on cooking and wine appreciation. Mr. Wong's grandfather was a kung fu master, his mother sang Chinese opera, and he is known for his ability to cook and sing Chinese opera at the same time, occasionally throwing in a kung fu kick for added spice. When he's not marketing himself he runs two restaurants, one of which he calls "Celebrity." Prosperity has fueled people's appetites for the exotic, pressuring Mr. Wong to continually dream up dishes for his increasingly sophisticated and picky patrons.

It's a peculiar thing to say, but I'll say it anyway: master chef Martin Yan on television appears exactly the same as Martin Yan in person. On his famed TV program "Yan Can Cook," his jet-black hair is perfectly combed, just as it is when the cameras aren't recording. On and off screen, he's handsome with high cheek bones and has a gleaming smile. His build is lean yet muscled.
