香川県に住む中国人留学生がリネージュでボットを使ってゲームの中のプレーヤーを襲い、アイテムをオークションで売って逮捕された。オンラインゲームではボット対策としてボット・トラップを作って、一人称シューティングゲームFPSで動きが異常に早かったり、命中率が異常に高かったりすると警告が発するように対策をとっている。しかしいくらボットの検出が発達してもボットもより高度になるので見つけ出すのがより難しくなっている。
