硫化水素hydrogen sulphideは，高濃度で吸い込むと死にいたるが，薄めた硫化水素を空気と混ぜて仮死状態を作り出せば長期間にわたる宇宙旅行に応用できるほか，癌細胞にターゲットを絞った癌治療や，戦場で傷ついた兵士を一時仮死状態において救援が来るまで時間を稼ぐことなどに応用ができる。
