フランス版CNNであるCII

紆余曲折の末，フランスは外国向けニュース専門衛星テレビ局CIIを開局することを決めた。衛星テレビ放送はフランスの考え方を世界に広めるのが目的でフランス語とアラビア語放送がある。予算が許せば英語放送も行われる。来年中に放送局を発足させ2006年前半の放送開始を目指す。国営フランス・テレビと民放のTF1がパートナーを組む。

The satellite station, to be called CII (International Information Channel) and involving a partnership between state-run French television and the private TF1, will have a launch-year budget of only £20 million, less than half the original figure.
Broadcasting analysts are divided on how successful the slimmed-down network, broadcasting in French and Arabic, will be in fulfilling Mr Chirac's ambition of achieving a global audience and greater authority for France's view of the world.
