Ars was also the stage for the launch of Creative Commons Austria. Creative Commons, a nonprofit organization that promotes the sharing and reuse of artistic works (think "some rights reserved" instead of "all rights reserved"), has been working to get its licensing agreements translated into different languages. Creative Commons licenses are currently in use in the United States, Brazil, Japan, Finland, Germany and now Austria.
Ars celebrated the launching of Creative Commons Austria by giving away 14,000 bottles of "open-source water" from the town of Hatlerdorf's public fountains. The fountains are managed by a local farmers' co-op founded in 1616.
