モルジブがセカンドライフ上に大使館設置

今までにもセカンドライフsecondlife上には現実世界の国家の代表機関が置かれていたが、モルジブが国として正式に大使館をセカンドライフの外交使団島に設置することになった。これはマルタに本拠を置く非営利基金の構想で、モルジブに続いてスウェーデン、マルタ、マケドニア、フィリピンも大使館設置を計画している。セカンドライフにはこれまでにもソニー、IBM、リーボック、ロイター、いまでは攻撃されてセカンドライフから消えてしまったオーストラリアのABC放送など国際的企業が自社ブランドをセカンドライフに開設している。

The Maldivian virtual embassy is located in the 'Diplomatic Quarter of Diplomacy Island in Second Life', an online space designed to allow new avenues for diplomatic representation and negotiation, especially for small and developing countries that have limited diplomatic outreach in the "real" world. Diplomacy Island is the brainchild of the Diplo Foundation, a non-profit organisation which works to assist developing countries participate meaningfully in international affairs.
